Scammer May Be Cloning Boulder Dispatch Number To Make Calls

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities in Boulder are sending a warning to residents about scammers pretending to be police.

Police say they have gotten at least six complaints about a caller claiming to be a cop and asking for money in exchange for having a warrant or fine dismissed.

Victims say the caller ID shows the calls are coming from the actual number for Boulder police dispatch. It's likely the scammer is using a software program to clone that number to make the call look legitimate.

Police say they would never ask residents for money.
