San Francisco Already Experiencing Super Bowl Mania

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS4) - CBS4's Kelly Werthmann is on assignment in California to cover the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50. On Sunday she got to visit Super Bowl City and also ventured outside of the festival to see how San Francisco is shaping up ahead of the the big game.

"It's cool to see everything all decorated, see the ferry building with the 50 on it," Broncos fan Jason Narayan said.

The Super Bowl is still a week away, but San Francisco is partying like it's already here.

"It's really exciting, we came in last night and there were fireworks and there are so many people out on the streets, it's really a lot of fun," tourist Christina Costigan said.

Even though the big game is actually happening at a stadium 45 minutes away in Santa Clara, the City by the Bay is acting as the unofficial host city.

"We're so excited. We wish the 49ers were in it but Denver is a great second team," San Francisco resident Ed Callen said.

Plans for the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl have been in the works for quite some time, and now those who live and work in the bay area are ready to play.

"People are really excited. Businesses are telling people not to come to work in downtown San Francisco," Callen said. "This place has turned into Super Bowl mania ... there's a lot of excitement in the air."

A lot of excitement, and a lot of love for football.

"I kind of joked with my girlfriend like, 'You might not be getting a Valentine's Day gift this year,'" a Broncos fan said.
