Westbound I-70 was shut down at 8 p.m. incident as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and clear the highway, according to a spokesperson with Golden Fire.

A Twitter message from the Colorado Department of Transportation an hour later indicated one lane of traffic was moving past the scene.

GFD Lt. Marc Staley described the RV as a Class A luxury motorhome with a matching hauler trailer. The fire started in the engine compartment.

A Florida couple was driving it to the mountains, Staley added.

He credited fires crews from Golden, Foothills and Pleasant View fire departments for managing the blaze and allowing the owners to salvage key personal items during the incident.

No injuries were reported, nor was a cause of the fire.
