Runners Brave Subzero Temps For Ugly Sweater Run
DENVER (CBS4)- It may look more like perfect skiing and skating weather in Denver, but that didn't stop dozens of runners from clocking a few miles downtown on Saturday morning.
"It's perfect weather for running in ugly sweaters," Jeff Suffolk, organizer of the Ugly Sweater Run, told CBS4's Kelly Werthmann.
Wearing some of their wildest holiday attire, runners took part in the annual Ugly Sweater Run Saturday morning when it was below zero degrees outside.
"I was supposed to be skiing and this was the alternative," runner Max Fulton said.
Despite subzero temperatures and eight inches of snow, the arctic blast just wasn't enough to cancel the event.
"Our crews were here all night shoveling snow and clearing the race path. Had there been more ice we likely would've canceled," Suffolk said. "We had to cancel a couple of races on the east coast because of the sleet and hail, but this is actually kind of nice right now."
At one point Fulton said he considered quitting, but only because his friend lost his breakfast while running.
"It's just a nice day to get out and go for a run," Fulton said.
Yes, because in Colorado, not even subzero temperatures will slow us down.
"Colorado people are hearty and they can handle it and they're all excited to be here," Suffolk said.
