Royal Gorge Bridge And Park Reopens After Fire

CANON CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park celebrated its grand reopening on Friday after the park was badly damaged by fire nearly two years ago.

The park is celebrating its new buildings, rides and attractions. That includes a new zipline that travels across the Royal Gorge, a tramway and a new roller coaster.

The main attraction -- the bridge that spans the canyon more than 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River -- was not significantly damaged in the fire.

The most significant new building is the 14,000-foot visitor center. Its exterior siding is made from the roughly 150 planks of the bridge that burned.

A wildfire in 2013 burned 3,200 acres of the park and destroyed 48 of the 52 buildings.
