The stabbing happened early Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of North 11th Street when the officer responded for a welfare check.

Investigators say the officer interviewed a resident outside of the home when Maestas came out and was armed with a knife. That's when the officer was reportedly attacked.

They say Maestas took off in a marked patrol car described as a white Dodge Charger with a red stripe and a license plate number of QTL086.
