Rockslide Closes Highway On The Grand Mesa

PALISADE, Colo. (AP) — A 125-foot-wide rockslide has closed the main highway over the Grand Mesa near Interstate-70.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says it may be Monday before they can get Colorado Highway 65 open.

The rocks that fell onto the roadway on Thursday will have to be blasted to be small enough to remove from the highway. Several rocks broke through the highway, and crews will have to move an estimated 600 tons of rock. No injuries were reported.

Alternate routes to Collbran and the Grand Mesa are through DeBeque Canyon or Delta.
