Eastbound I-70 reopened after rock slide in Mesa County; 1 seriously injured

Rock slide shuts down stretch of I-70 eastbound through De Beque Canyon in Mesa County

The eastbound stretch of Interstate 70 that runs through De Beque Canyon in Mesa County has reopened after a rock slide shut it down late Friday night.

The road reopened Saturday night and new information reveals that 19-year-old man was struck in the head by a boulder and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to CDOT, I-70 was closed between the exit for James M. Robb Colorado River State Park and the exit for Highway 65 east of Palisade.

The slide occurred sometime just before 9:30 p.m. at mile marker 43 (43 miles east of the Colorado-Utah state line).
