Rist Canyon Shows Off New Fire Station After It Was Destroyed In Fire

RIST CANYON, Colo. (CBS4)- Firefighters in Rist Canyon showed off their new fire station on Tuesday morning. They celebrated with an uncoupling of fire hoses to put the fire house officially in business.

The original station on Whale Rock Road was burned in 2012 in the High Park Fire northwest of Fort Collins along with 254 homes. Some firefighters also lost their homes.

The community is thankful to have the fire station back.

"I think by putting this station back in service we're making a commitment to the community up here and actually upgrading the capability and the ability for us to respond to fires up here," said Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Chief Bob Gann.

Gann said its trucks will be certified to help lower insurance costs for homeowners in the area. The High Park Fire burned more than 89,000 acres in Larimer County.
