Rising Rivers And Streams Close Roads In Weld County

WELD COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- As heavy rain continued across much of Colorado on Friday, rising water levels have emergency crews concerned.

Rising water caused some problems northwest of Mead along Weld County Road 5 where the land gave way to a rising reservoir.

There were issues on Friday with the Highland Lake overflow pipe which flows under the road. The pipe has been repaired but the damage under the road is significant and will be repaired by public works as soon as possible.

Crews shut down part of Weld County Road 5 until repairs were completed.

Several roads in Weld County remained closed on Friday, including Weld County Road 4 between Weld County Road 73 and 81, the southeast part of the county near the Adams County border, Weld County Road 89 between Weld County Road 46½ and Weld County Road 52, near Riverside Reservoir in eastern Weld County in the Masters area, and Weld County Road 5 between Weld County Road 34½ and Weld County Road 36 near Mead.

In Larimer County, the Cache la Poudre River breached its banks, flooding the Swetsville Zoo sculpture garden.

Emergency managers plan to spend the weekend tracking water levels and keeping an eye on roads and bridges as more rain is expected to fall.
