Rising Platte Prompts Voluntary Evacuation Orders In Northwest Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities have issued a voluntary evacuation order for residents around the Messex area in extreme northwest Washington County due to possible flooding.

Just after 7 a.m. individual calls were made to residents in the area as a precautionary measure in regards to the continued rise in water on the South Platte River.

Residents were notified to voluntarily evacuate due to the deteriorating road conditions leading to private properties.

Some forecast models are calling for an additional 1 inch of rain over the next 24 hours in Washington and Morgan counties. The National Weather Service said they don't expect the additional rain to create more flood problems, but that it will need to be monitored.
