Riot Fest Gets Set For First Performances At Mile High

DENVER (CBS4) - The stages are set up, and a three-day music festival that was originally supposed to take place in rural Arapahoe County is getting ready to start in Denver.

A year ago the festival brought more than 13,000 people to May Farms in the town of Byers.

Some people living in the small farming community said it was a disaster and revoked the permit for this year's event. Thousands of tickets had already been sold at that point.

Organizers ended up booking it instead in the parking lot of Sports Authority Field at Mile High instead.

The Broncos play the Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday, so there was never a conflict with having football crowds at the stadium.

Bands performing on Friday include The Flaming Lips, Primus, Weezer and Slayer, and the banners above the stages still have names that make it seem like it's still in a rural setting. One sign says "Byers" and another has "May Farms" on it.

The festival takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Other weekend performers include The Cure, Descendents, Social Distortion, The National, TV on the Radio, Violent Femmes, Sublime with Rome, Wu-Tang Clan, Dropkick Murphys and the Colorado band 3Oh!3.
