Police say a man's body was found outside an apartment complex located at 5th Avenue and Alton Street on a couch. Police have classified the investigation as a homicide. The mobile crime lab was on scene Wednesday morning along with a lot of detectives.

Neighbors say police woke them up around 6 a.m. asking if anyone had seen or heard anything. Some residents say they heard a gunshot around 2 a.m.

Resident Carla Norman headed outside moments after the gunshots to move her truck.

"I look back and I see a body on the couch, but I'm nervous -- not knowing he's dead -- I'm trying to hurry to get into my truck because I heard gunshots," Norman said.

Crime scene technicians were using metal detectors to sift through the snow. They were also on their hands and knees searching for evidence on the ground.

"This is the first murder that I've seen over here, but they have like, they have no manager, so there's a lot of chaos over here. It's government assisted, but still I think it shouldn't be the reason this type of stuff is going on," resident Layah Jarman said. "They said they heard footsteps and arguments, so I'm guessing it was a disagreement between two people and one person won."

Neighbors say they're stunned that it happened so close to an apartment. The couch that the man was found on is right outside someone's windows.

Anyone with information is asked to call Denver police.
