Rescue Effort On For Injured Man In Rocky Mountain National Park

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (CBS4) – Crews are working to rescue a stranded, injured man in Rocky Mountain National Park.

According to Kyle Patterson with the National Park Service, the 21-year-old man activated a personal locator beacon (PLB) near the Continental Divide on Saturday night. He was traversing between Thatchtop Mountain and Powell Peak.

"Eventually, rangers were able to speak with the man and had him call 911 from his cellphone to enable the GPS on his phone to narrow down his location above Sky Pond," Patterson said in a prepared statement.

The man said he sustained injuries after a fall and found himself in a location where he couldn't move up or down. He is located about 1,500 feet above Sky Pond and 500 feet below Thatchtop Mountain in a steep area with loose rocks.
