Rep. Coffman Splits With Republicans To Oppose Dreamer Roll Back

DENVER (AP) - Congressman Mike Coffman voted against overturning one of President Barack Obama's key immigration policies even though he disagrees with the president using executive orders to deal with immigration.

Coffman was the only Colorado Republican to oppose an amendment defunding a program to stop the deportation of young people who entered the country illegally with their parents. In a statement issued in English and Spanish, Coffman said Congress should pass its own version of the program and says the GOP "needs to stop saying what we are against and start saying what we are for" on immigration.

Colorado's Democratic representatives also voted against the amendment.

Coffman did back a measure that would undo Obama's executive actions to provide temporary deportation relief to some 4 million immigrants in the country illegally.
