Red Rocks Celebrates 75th Birthday

DENVER (CBS4) - Red Rocks celebrated its 75th birthday on Wednesday.

The park opened June 15, 1941 as the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre. It took 12 years to build.

Red Rocks celebrated its National Historic Landmark achievement for the park and Civilian Conservation Corp, or CCC camp.

By the end of this year Red Rocks will have hosted 2,700 shows.

Red Rocks Park and the CCC camp received National Historic Landmark status in 2015. On Wednesday, the park and camp will receive the honorary award that is administered by the National Park Service on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior. The designation recognizes sites that possess exceptional value and quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States.
