Rapids Out To Prove Success Wasn't A Fluke As Playoffs Begin

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - The Major League Soccer playoffs get underway on Sunday. The Colorado Rapids have traveled to Los Angeles for Game 1 of a two-game set with the Galaxy.

It's the first trip to the postseason for the Rapids since 2013, and after finishing last in the Western Conference a season ago, they're out to prove the success this year was legit.

"I think we've struggled the last couple of years and I think the fans have felt the same kind of pain we've felt here," Rapids head coach Pablo Mastroeni said. "We've turned a corner this year … we've proven over 10 months that we're for real. We're a real team and we're continuing to build and I think the future is bright for this club."

"It's not by any fluke that we're here in this position that we're in. We had great season. They put together a great team coming in to this season, great tactics, and it's something that we need to go to L.A. and believe in ourselves," Rapids midfielder Marlon Hairston said.

Faceoff for Game 1 is at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
