Rains Push Home Off Foundation In De Beque
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP/CBS4) - A flash flood watch in parts of western Colorado has been cancelled for now, a day after heavy rain flooded homes in De Beque and streets around Mesa County.
The Daily Sentinel reports that a home was pushed off its foundations and a garage was destroyed in De Beque on Monday. Storms stalled over the Grand Valley, allowing rain to breached ditch banks and flowed through normally dry washes.
"I saw that going down the road and I said, 'Oh my God, Andi,' called my wife, and she said, 'We've got to do something,' " De Beque resident Robert Becker said.
Crews needed heavy machinery to clear some of the debris.
Grand Junction set a new rainfall record for the day with 1.2 inches falling at the city's airport, most of it in less than an hour. The previous record for Aug. 4 was just over half of an inch set back in 1897.
