Pueblo Woman Charged For Leaving Baby On Train Tracks

PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS4) – A woman accused of leaving an infant on railroad tracks in Pueblo and then running away has been charged with attempted murder.

Police said Jennifer Sloan, 31, placed the 2-week-old girl on the train tracks on Friday. After she ran away two city workers rescued the baby.

Some witnesses said at first they didn't realize the woman had left a baby there because the bundle was so tiny.

"I thought this there's no way this could be a baby. I said, 'This has to be a doll.' She has to be in on some joke," said witness Eduardo Fontes.

Witnesses told police two trains were on the tracks but neither was moving and they chased and detained Sloan until officers arrived.

"I was freaking out," said Fontes. "On the first car I saw, I knocked on their window and was like, 'Hey man, this woman just left her baby. The baby is on the tracks right next to the train.' "

Authorities said Sloan was incoherent and taken into custody.

The baby was taken to a hospital as a precaution and is expected to be okay.

It is unknown if Sloan is the baby's mother.
