Protesters Claim Future Of Public Lands In Colorado At Risk

DENVER (CBS4)- A group that organized a loud debate outside the state Capitol on Wednesday urged Coloradans to take an interest in the public lands in the state.

The non-profit environmental group Conservation Colorado organized a mock auction of Colorado's most prized public lands.

They wanted to draw attention to legislation at the state and federal level that would give states more authority over regulating the lands.

"We can't ever let the specter of that become more real where we lose access to those public lands and that is what is at play under the gold dome right now," said one protester.

A bill that would give Colorado more of a say in the management of our public lands is up for a hearing on Monday at the state Capitol.
