Prosecutors Continue Talks With Owner Of Dog Killed By Police Dog

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4)- Prosecutors continue talks with the owner of a dog killed by a police dog last year.

It happened at Trailwinds Park in Thornton in December 2014.

The Thornton Police Department said Douglas County sheriff's deputy Greg Wilson was not on duty but was on call and handling the K-9 unit, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois named Freia.

Freia escaped from his vehicle and mauled and killed an 11-year-old Shih tsu named Annie.

Wilson faces charges for the dog escaping and for the dog attacking another animal.

Both Wilson and the K-9 are back at work.
