Proposal Seeks To Limit Use Of Red Light Cameras

DENVER (CBS4) - The House Committee of Transportation and Energy will revisit the issue of red light cameras on Wednesday.

In June 2015, Gov. John Hickenlooper vetoed a bill that sought to ban the cameras completely. This proposal seeks not to ban but to limit their use in certain areas.

The bill does allow red light cameras to be used in school zones, construction zones or on major roadways that serve through traffic.

When the governor vetoed the proposal from June, he did tell lawmakers he would support limitations.

The bill also suggests taking money from the red light camera fines and putting it towards traffic safety improvements.
