Privatizing DMV Bill Passes Senate, Heads To House

DENVER (CBS4)- A bill that would privatize the Division of Motor Vehicles has passed the state Senate and will now to to the state House.

The measure would allow $200,000 to be used to study how to outsource things like the renewal of driver's licenses and license plates.

The bill's sponsor, Sen. Ray Scott, R-Grand Junction, says it's an effort to reduce wait times without building new government offices.

Twenty-two other states already use third party vendors for DMV-related services.
