Pretending Pet Is Service Animal Crime Bill Postponed

DENVER (CBS4)- An effort to make it a crime to pretend a pet is a service animal has been placed on hold at the state Capitol.

The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed the bill indefinitely on Monday.

The bill would have made passing off a companion animal as a service animal a misdemeanor offense.

The bill also applies to people who misrepresent themselves as trainers of service animals.

Only dogs and miniature horses qualify as service animals. They are not required to have vests or documentation and any place that is open to the public has to accommodate a service animal.
