Pre-Drought Expands Into Denver Thanks To Lackluster Monsoon

By Chris Spears

DENVER (CBS4) - The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows nearly 27 percent of Colorado is now considered abnormally dry, or in pre-drought, including all of metro Denver.

Despite several days of humid, moisture-filled air courtesy of the monsoon we haven't seen widespread rainfall materialize.

Many areas have been reporting drier-than-normal conditions since June.

Southwest Colorado has seen pockets of moderate to heavy rain in recent weeks but it hasn't been widespread.

Extreme southern Montezuma County continues in a moderate drought with abnormally dry conditions in surrounding counties.
