Power Outage Affects Thousands In Foothills

CONIFER, Colo. (CBS4) - Thousands of people are without power in an area of the Jefferson County foothills after a small fire disrupted a power transmission line.

The problem started over the weekend when Xcel Energy's transmission line went down, and people who are affected are part of Intermountain Rural Electric Association.

The outage area is along the Highway 285 corridor between Bailey and Tiny Town, and includes some customers near Conifer.

The estimate Monday morning was that 4,600 customers remain affected.

The problem isn't expected to be fixed until Tuesday or Wednesday, according to the power companies.
