Postal Workers Bustling On The Busiest Delivery Day Of The Year

DENVER (CBS4) - Christmas cards and holiday packages are on the way to their destinations. The U.S. Postal Service was bustling Monday on the busiest delivery day of the year.

Carriers will deliver more than 30 million pieces of mail nationwide and about 2.7 million in Denver on Monday alone. It's busy for those on the mailing side of things as well, but last Monday was the busiest mailing day of the year.

There are 60 percent more pieces of mail this year than last year because of how easy it has become to print labels online. Printing online also saves money and gives some tools to help prevent package theft.

"Use myusps.com, you can sign up there, you get a text message, you get an email when something has come to your house. That way there are no surprises," David Rupert with USPS said. "We also recommend that if could put a planter or something on your porch, that way we can tuck it in there, out of sight, out of mind for those bad guys coming to try to steal your stuff."

Flat rate priority will get there if it's sent by Monday. It costs $5.75 for a flat rate envelope.

After Monday the last day to get something delivered by Christmas is Wednesday, but you need to ship express and that flat rate envelope jumps from $5.75 to $19.99.
