Postal Carrier Gets Probation For Stealing Mail

DENVER (AP) - A 15-year veteran of the U.S. Postal Service has been sentenced to probation for stealing mail.

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that John J. Bonney, 37, of Westminster was sentenced to two years of probation Thursday.

Investigators were alerted to a $100 Home Depot gift card that never reached its destination. Investigators were able to view surveillance at a Westminster Home Depot where the card was used and discovered Bonney, dressed in his uniform, had used the card.

Bonney was indicted by a federal grand jury in November. He pleaded guilty in January.

Bonney has resigned his position as a mail carrier. He delivered mail in Golden.
