Police Use Armored Vehicle To Make Contact With Man Shooting A Gun

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Law enforcement officers used an armored vehicle to make contact with an armed man on the tower at the Dam Store near the mouth of the Big Thompson Canyon Sunday morning.

According to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call of a man shooting a gun at approximately 5 a.m.

"Deputies and members of the Colorado State Patrol, Estes Park Police Department, and Fort Collins Police Services shut down Highway 34 to prevent traffic from entering the area," Jered Kramer with the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Just before 8 a.m. a Fort Collins Police Services armored vehicle was used to make contact with the man. He surrendered peacefully.

The man's name hasn't been released.

A Larimer County Sheriff's Office Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Unit van was involved in an accident while responding to the call.
