Police Say 12-Year-Old Boy Took Mercedes, Hit Parked Car

EDGEWATER, Colo. (AP) - A 12-year-old boy is in big trouble after taking his mom's Mercedes on a joyride early Saturday and crashing into a parked car.

Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey says the mother left the keys to her car on a table and was unaware her child was missing until she was contacted by police.

Mackey says police saw the car moving slowly without its lights on and tried to stop it. The car ran a red light and went several blocks before making a sharp turn and hitting a parked vehicle.

The boy and two companions in the car were not seriously injured. They have been returned to their parents while the district attorney looks into possible charges.
