Police: Rape Suspect Who Kidnapped Longmont Teen Girl Arrested In Alabama

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Longmont say a sexual assault suspect who they said kidnapped a 16-year-old girl has been arrested in Alabama.

According to Cmdr. Jeff Satur with Longmont Police, the suspect is Thomas Fechtler, 51, who also goes by the name Thomas Kitchen. Fechtler is wanted for sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, second-degree kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

"The suspect has been arrested and the young girl is safe. We received information they were in Alabama and with assistance from the Clark County Sheriff's Office, they located the vehicle and apprehended the suspect," Satur said in a statement.

According to Satur, Fechtler was arrested just before 11 a.m. Thursday in Coffeeville, Alabama.

Satur said Longmont police had "great support from the FBI-Fort Collins Field Office, their field agents in Alabama, and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children."
