Police Officer Injured In Shooting Identified, Suspects Have Long Criminal History

DENVER (CBS4)- The police officer shot in Monday's crime spree has been identified as Rachel Eid. She was released from the hospital just hours after the shooting.

The shooting happened at 35th and Lowell Monday afternoon when police responded to the Highlands neighborhood on reports of an attempted break-in. When they arrived, the suspects began shooting at police and led them on a chase.

One suspect, Alfonso Padilla, was taken into custody. The other suspect carjacked a vehicle before he was shot and killed after exchanging gunfire with officers.

"It's fortunate that it wasn't more critical than it was. Anytime someone has a gunshot wound, it is very critical and a long process going forward with that, so we deal with that on a day-to-day basis," said Commander Ronald Saunier.

Police said both suspects have extensive criminal history. The identity of the deceased suspect has not been released.
