Police Make Arrest In Deadly Christmas Eve Crash

DENVER (CBS4)- Police have made an arrest in a deadly Christmas Eve crash that claimed the life of one man.

About 2 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2015, a stolen white four-door sedan was heading southbound on Interstate 25 near Colfax Avenue with two people inside when it lost control and collided with a white Chevy pickup truck.

Both cars struck the concrete wall on the right, then both cars struck the center concrete barrier. The Chevy rolled over in the crash and the driver, 52-year-old Jeffrey Koontz, was killed at the scene.

When officers arrived, witnesses said that a female ran from the crash site. Officers located a man, later identified as Jorge Robles, in the passenger seat of the at-fault vehicle. Robles, 22, told police the woman who ran from the crash caused the collision.

However, police said that evidence obtained from the interior of the vehicle determined that Robles was driving at the time of the crash.

Robles remains in custody for investigation of vehicular homicide and duty in accident involving death.
