Home Searched, Yard Dug Up In 4-Year-Old Missing Woman Case
PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS4) - Police are searching a southwest Pueblo home and digging in the backyard as they look for a missing woman from Pueblo.
The Pueblo Police Department says they are conducting their operation at a home on Manor Ridge Drive as they try to solve the 4-year-old disappearance of Kelsie Schelling.
"It's not a cold case like everyone thinks it is. Anytime they get a lead, a tip or anything, they follow it whether it be small or large. I think today this just happened to lead them to the back yard of this individual's residence where they are doing some searching," said Pueblo Police Sgt. Eric Gonzales. "They're digging up some areas, excavating some areas and they're sifting through dirt just looking for any signs or clues that can help us solve the case of this missing person."
The home belongs to the grandmother of Donthe Lucas, a man the 22-year-old was dating.
On the night of Feb. 4, 2013, Schelling drove from Denver to a Walmart in Pueblo to meet Lucas, who was the alleged father of her unborn child. She hasn't been heard from or seen since.
A police spokesperson said the search was being done due to new leads in the case.
In February a Pueblo police officer said they were still actively investigating the case.
