Police Investigating Fatal Shooting In Brighton

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4) – Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in Brighton that happened early Saturday morning.

According to Brighton Police spokesman John Bradley, officers were dispatched to a home in the 3500 block of Hottman Street on a reported family dispute that escalated to gunfire.

"When officers arrived on scene they found two adult males with gunshot wounds," said Mark Kohn from the Brighton Police Department.

The 30-year-old believed to be the son was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say around 2 a.m. an argument broke out between a father and son.

Police have not said if anyone else was inside the home at the time of the shooting.

The incident came as a shock to neighbor Margaret Cook.

"This is a really quiet neighborhood, its really just a nice neighborhood," said Cook.

Police said it's too early in the investigation to state whether the killing was a homicide.

Authorities spent all day Saturday searching the home.

"It's just like wow, this just doesn't happen here," said Cook.

It is unclear if any charges will be filed in this case.
