After police arrived at the home on a call about an intruder they found the woman dead from what appears to have been a stab wound. A 44-year-old man who was apparently involved in the situation was hurt, possibly by attempting suicide, and was described as being in critical condition at the hospital afterwards.

The woman was 36 and has five children. Police say she was staying at the Castle Rock home where the violence happened with her mother and brother and was trying to "escape a domestic situation."

A victim support team is now working to help the children along with the woman's mother and brother.

Police said there is not any threat to the public following the incident.

Authorities have not released the names of anyone who was involved in the incident.
