Police Investigate Death Of Infant Found Unresponsive

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old baby girl in Lakewood.

Officers initially responded on Thursday to a 911 call for a child having difficulty breathing.

Police arrived at a townhouse on West 16th Avenue near Sheridan Boulevard and found that the baby was unresponsive.

Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital, where authorities said she was treated for unexplained injuries.

The baby died at the hospital several days later, on Sunday.

Crime scene tape still surrounded the home in question on Monday. Neighbors in the gated community said that officers had been on scene through that morning.

"It's very shocking," said one neighbor, "this is such a quiet neighborhood."

"I wouldn't expect something like this to happen," said another neighbor.

Police released few details about the circumstances behind the death, but said the baby and her 20-year-old father were the only people inside the townhouse prior to the 911 call.

Detectives were investigating the infant's death and said that no arrests had been made.
