Police: Grandmother Got Grandkids To Shoplift

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A grandmother has been arrested and is facing charges for allegedly getting her grandchildren to shoplift.

Police arrested Trina Chavez-Hutchins on Monday after police said she took her 10-year-old grandson and 7-year-old granddaughter to a sporting goods store at the Citadel Mall.

They allegedly stole about $360 worth of merchandise. Surveillance tape shows the three running from the store.

Chavez-Hutchins, 43, faces charges of theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Neighbors said they are surprised to learn of the allegations.

"I've known Trina for a while. She's very nice. She's like the neighborhood mom. She's always sitting outside, watching everybody's kids, very friendly," said neighbor Adrian Neapodaca.

Chavez-Hutchins has a lengthy rap sheet from all across Colorado, including theft and fraud.
