Wild Chase Ends With Robbery Suspects' Arrests In West Denver
DENVER (CBS4) - Four suspected bank robbers led police on a wild high-speed chase from Edgewater into west Denver, crashed through cars and fled on foot before police nabbed them on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspects wrecked their getaway vehicle near 38th Avenue and Lowell Street in Denver's West Highland neighborhood during a pursuit. Two people -- a woman and a child -- were injured and treated on the scene before being transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
"It was just flying," said John Anderson, whose car sideswiped the suspects' car. "It was going super-fast, and I just had enough time to slam on the brakes and hit him in the side."
Anderson's BMW first struck the car driven by the suspects. They then careened into another car, one driven by the injured pair, before coming to a halt. That's when they fled on foot through the neighborhood.
"They took off," Anderson said. "A whole lot of cop cars were here very quickly and they all got out and ran."
Witnesses said the suspects' vehicle was racing west near Newton Street and 38th Avenue when Anderson's car sideswiped the suspects' vehicle, which went into a tailspin.
Three of the four suspects were hurt, police said. Their names haven't been released.
Police said the suspects also rammed a police cruiser after fleeing the bank.
The FBI said the robbed bank is a TCF Bank branch in Edgewater.
