Police Arrest Suspects After Fire Sprinklers Turned On

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Colorado Springs police and firefighters had to rescue two people sought on felony warrants after the suspects turned on fire sprinklers in a hotel room in an attempt to escape.

Police said Saturday the pair barricaded themselves in a third-floor room at the Hotel Elegante when police tried to arrest them, and set off alarms and a sprinkler system to distract them.

A man came out of the room complaining he was cold, and firefighters had to turn off the sprinkler system to get a woman out of the room.

Police say the water was so deep a toilet had to be removed to allow water to drain from the hotel room.

Both were charged with tampering with fire suppression equipment and endangering hotel guests. They were not identified.
