Police: 100+ Shots Fired In LoDo Parking Lot Gang Shootout
DENVER (CBS4) - Police say more than 100 shots were fired in a shooting between gang members in LoDo over the weekend.
Shots rang out shortly after midnight Saturday in the paid lot near 18th and Blake Streets.
Police said the shooting was a result of a confrontation between several people.
Two adult males were shot. One victim was rushed to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The other victim, later identified as Gailen Armstrong, died in the parking lot. Police said that the two victims were together when they were shot.
CBS4's Kelly Werthmann spoke to Armstrong's girlfriend who asked for her identity to be kept anonymous.
"He was awesome," said said of her boyfriend of more than a year. "He was a good guy. He didn't deserve any of this."
She said Armstrong, 20, was just getting his life back on track when the shooting happened. She confirmed he was involved in gang activity but was "changing."
"He just got a job a few months ago," she said. "He was trying to stay out of trouble."
Armstrong's girlfriend doesn't know who he was with the night he was killed or why he was in Lodo. She also wouldn't comment on who may be responsible for his death but had a message for gang members in Denver.
"I want all these young people who think that gang-banging is fun, it's not," she said.
Armstrong leaves behind a 4-month-old baby son and is survived by his mother, brothers and sisters.
At least a dozen parked cars were riddled with bullets in the shooting.
