Polar Plunge At Denver Zoo Celebrates International Polar Bear Day

DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver Zoo celebrated International Polar Bear Day with a Splash and Dash as part of the Polar Plunge series for the Special Olympics.

Saturday's event began at 11 a.m. with a 5K race in City Park before moving into the zoo's Conoco Zoo Gardens pavilion where participants braved the elements and jumped into an ice cold pool.

Denver Zoo president and CEO Shannon Block was one of the participants. All proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics Colorado.

In celebration of International Polar Bear Day, Denver Zoo guests will find out how they can save polar bears in the wild. Polar bears Lee and Cranbeary enjoyed a special ice sculpture treat of fish gel.
