Plans To Revamp City Park Golf Course Move Forward

DENVER (CBS4) - The city has picked three contractors to submit proposals for a project to revamp Denver's City Park Golf Course.

The goal is to redesign the course for new storm water detention areas to reduce flooding in northeast Denver neighborhoods.

At York Street and 26th Avenue, a detention area that will be integrated into the design of the golf course will be built. That detention area will remain dry outside of major storm events.

Denver Public Works has a slideshow of similar storm water detention areas in golf courses in Colorado and other parts of the U.S. so residents can view the projects.

In the Cole Neighborhood, located a little more than a mile north of City Park Golf Course, a greenway and open channel will be built. Denver Public Works describes it as a "natural channel" which includes a two-mile recreation path and other community amenities that will help convey storm water to the South Platte River.

The city will select one of the contractors in the spring, and construction is expected to begin by the end of the year.

The course will close at the end of this golf season for the construction, remaining closed until 2019.
