Documents: Planned Parenthood Shooter Wore Bullet-Resistant Vest Made Of Coins, Tape
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A judge released several key documents Monday night in the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood shooting last November.
Three people were killed and nine others injured when a gunman opened fire at the clinic.
Unsealed search warrant requests reveal the admitted gunman, Robert Dear, was injured by police during the incident. Dear wore a homemade bullet-resistant vest made out of silver coins and duct tape.
One of nearly a dozen newly-released documents suggests Dear initially had trouble finding the clinic and had to call the office to get the address. That same document includes interviews with victims who say just before Dear shot them he said, "You shouldn't have come here today."
The papers go on to detail Dear's anti-abortion views which he laid out for police in his initial interview reportedly telling detectives "he was upset with Planned Parenthood for the selling of baby parts." He was referring to reports involving Planned Parenthood that had surfaced just prior to the shooting in Colorado Springs.
In that same initial interview the paperwork says Dear told detectives he was happy with what he had done and said "his dream was that he would be met by all the aborted fetuses at the gates of Heaven and they would thank him for what he did."
