Pilot Killed In Buena Vista Plane Crash Identified

BUENA VISTA, Colo. (CBS4)- The pilot killed when an experimental aircraft crashed near Buena Vista on Monday afternoon has been identified.

Jay Jones was the sole occupant on board the plane when it crashed near County Road 3564 just north Buena Vista at 12:15 p.m. Monday. The plane caught fire once it hit the ground about four miles north of the airport.

Jones, 63, was a local pilot from Buena Vista.

The Chaffee County Sheriff confirmed the fatality.

The FAA and NTSB will investigate.

What happened leading up to the crash is unknown. Where the plane was headed has also not been determined.
