Phone Scam Targets Customers Of Intermountain Rural Electric Association

DENVER (CBS4) - The Intermountain Rural Electric Association is alerting its customers of a phone call scam.

In automated calls scammers threaten to cut a person's power if they do not pay their bill. Customers are told to call a 1-800 number, which directs them to an automated system that appears to be real.

IREA warns customers not to make any payment arrangements with this number. The company said it will never ask customers to use a prepaid card for payment.
