Pedestrian Killed In Hit & Run On South Colorado Boulevard

DENVER (CBS4) – Denver police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run of a female pedestrian that occurred Thursday morning.

The incident happened at South Colorado Boulevard and East Exposition Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m.

Police said they were searching for a white sedan with license plate 085-DXX. They located a 1985 Chevy Impala resembling the description later in the day. They are calling the car a "vehicle of interest" in the case and had it towed to get a better look at it.

"Right now we don't know if its involvement is confirmed or not. That's part of our investigative process," Sgt. Mike Farr with Denver Police Traffic Investigations said.

Witnesses said the woman was walking across Colorado Boulevard from west to east with the light when a car turned the corner, struck her and fled.

Witnesses told police the car was turning right on red, which is legal, unless there is a hazard, such as a pedestrian.

"Clearly hitting the pedestrian means that there was a hazard that had to be dealt with," Farr said. "Then of course what makes it worse now is that the vehicle fled the scene."

Police have spoken to the 85-year-old owner of the car. He has not been placed under arrest.

The name of the victim hasn't been released.
