Patriots Release Terrance Knighton

BOSTON (The Sports Xchange) - The New England Patriots released veteran defensive lineman Terrance Knighton on Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 355-pound Knighton signed a one-year deal with the Patriots in April after starting 96 games in seven NFL seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2009-2012), Denver Broncos (2013-2014) and Washington Redskins (2015). In 108 career games, he has recorded 230 tackles and 14 sacks.

"Well it's been real New England. The road continues," Knighton tweeted Monday morning after being cut. "Great respect for Robert Kraft and bill Belichick. Learned some things from my time here."

Knighton, 30, questioned why he did not play in New England's 19-17 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers on Friday night.

"You're always concerned when you're not playing," Knighton said after the game. "I prepared myself to play, the coaches made the decisions on who they wanted to play, and I'm not going to ask any questions or make any excuses or look for any explanation. I'm just going to get dressed, get back on the plane and see what happens."
