Patrick Roy: 'We're Going To Benefit From This Season'

DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Avalanche will finish the season with three home games this week against teams that, unlike the Avs, still have something to play for.

The Avs were officially eliminated even before they lost to Los Angeles Saturday night.

Head coach Patrick Roy said after the game that the team is disappointed after what they did the year before, but applauded the team's effort after a slow start.

Roy also cited the numerous injuries as one reason for the step back and pointed out it was just year two in a rebuilding effort with a core of players like Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan O'Reilly, Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene and Tyson Barrie that are all still 24 or younger.

"We're going to benefit from this season. I think it's a young group and I think we're learning a lot," Roy said. "I always said in Denver it was process for your team and obviously we always want to go faster in the process, but unfortunately it's otherwise."

The Avs travel to Nashville to take on the Predators Tuesday night.
