Patients Create Jackson Pollock-Style Paintings At Children's Hospital

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) – There was a special painting party for patients at The Children's Hospital in Aurora on Tuesday.

The patients, their families and staff worked together to create "large-scale" drip paintings in the style of artist Jackson Pollock.

Pollock used unconventional tools to drip paint onto a canvas.

"What it's all about is self-expression, and the cool thing to me that Jackson Pollock was all about, and I think is important to these kids, is there's no right or wrong way to do it," Stefania Van Dyke with the Denver Art Museum said. "They can paint outside the lines, so it's exciting and it's a great way to kind of get some energy out."

The works of art will be on display at the hospital.

The event was held to celebrate the opening of "Modern Masters: 20th Century Icons," which includes work by Pollock on display now at the Denver Art Museum.
